Honorary doctorate for Irena Hajnsek
Irena Hajnsek, Professor of Earth Observation and Remote Sensing at the ETH-Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Oslo. The award was presented to her on Monday at the university’s annual ceremony. Congratulations!

Throughout last week, members of our group attended and made contributions to the geoscience and remote sensing conference IGARSS 2024, taking place in Athens, Greece.
Awards for excellent doctoral theses
Every year, outstanding doctoral theses are awarded the ETH Medal. In 2024, five young researchers from the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering received this honour. The ETH Medal was presented today by Rector Günther Dissertori at the doctoral ceremony. Congratulations!

Using radar to study glaciers
ETH researchers led by Professor Irena Hajnsek are using radar to scan the snow and ice on the Jungfraujoch. Sometimes, scaling an icy peak is the only way for scientists to fully understand satellite data.
Visit of the KoRaTo collaboration
Last week we hosted researchers from the Ulm University and the Friedrich-Alexander-University as part of an exchange focused on radar remote sensing research activities and applications.
