Backscatter Characteristics of Snow Avalanches for Mapping With Local Resolution Weighting

Our MSc Student Cedric Tompkin published his MSc thesis about snow avalanche detection in the peer-reviewed Journal IEEE Journal of Selected Topics of Remote Sensing.

In collaboration with the Computer Vision Laboratory (ETH/ITED), our MSc Student Cedric Tompkin published his MSc Thesis about snow avalanche detection in the peer-reviewed Journal IEEE Journal of Selected Topics of Remote Sensing. His work shows a detailed characterization of the radar incidence angle-dependent visibility of the brightness of snow avalanches which is highly relevant to select the best viewing geometry for satellite-based avalanche detection. The work was supervised by Silvan Leinss and Danda Pani Paudel from the groups of Irena Hajnsek and Luc Van Gool.
